The consulting rooms in Albany Street are in a cottage which is over a century old and which is located in the historic hospital precinct of Crows Nest. The cottage is thought to have been occupied very early in its history by hospital staff. The first North Shore Hospital was built at Crows Nest in 1897, and occupied the block adjacent to the cottage bounded by Albany Street, Willoughby Road and Zig Zag Lane. The hospital was opened with accommodation for 14 patients but, with the need to accommodate a growing number of patients, in 1902 the North Shore Hospital moved nine blocks east to occupy its current site on the Pacific Highway at St Leonards. In 1906 the Sisters of Mercy purchased the hospital building and renamed it the Mater Misercordiae Hospital for Women and Children. In 1914, the Mater General Hospital was built nine blocks to the south on the Pacific Highway at North Sydney and the cottage hospital at Crows Nest was finally closed. Today the only buildings of that era that remain intact within the hospital precinct are the cottages in Albany Street.
